A curtain of stars surrounds the 3.58 metre New Technology Telescope
(NTT) at ESO's La Silla Observatory on the outskirts of the Chilean
Atacama Desert. To the left of the Milky Way is the bright orange star
Antares. Saturn can be seen as the brightest point to the upper left of
Antares and Alpha and Beta Centauri glow in the upper right of the

Minos prayed to Poseidon to send
him a snow-white bull, as a sign of approval to reign. He promised to
sacrifice the bull. A beautiful white bull rose from the sea, but when
Minos saw it, he liked it so much that he kept it and sacrificed from
his herd instead. When Poseidon learned it, he made Minos' wife,
Pasipha, fall madly in love with the bull. She had Daedalus make a
wooden cow for her. Pasipha climbed into the decoy and fooled the white
bull, producing this monster, called the Minotaur.
