The Skagerrak is a strait running between the southeast coast of Norway, the southwest coast of Sweden, and the northern coast of the Jutland Peninsula in Denmark. It connects the North Sea to the Baltic Sea and serves as a major navigational route for shipping and trade. The name "Skagerrak" is derived from the OLD NORSE words "Skaga," meaning a protruding headland, and "Rak," meaning straight waterway.
