Xalapa (Jalapa), Veracruz, Mexico:
Xalapa, also known as Jalapa, is the capital city of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It lies near the geographic center of the state and is the second-largest city after Veracruz to the southeast.
The name “Xalapa” comes from the Classical Nahuatl roots “xālli” (pronounced, meaning “sand”) and “āpan”, meaning “place of water”), which translates to “spring in the sand.”
The city’s nickname is “City of Flowers” (Spanish: “La ciudad de las flores”), given by Alexander von Humboldt during his visit in 1804.
Xalapa has a rich cultural heritage, notable landmarks, and a vibrant atmosphere. It’s definitely worth exploring!
