Prov.13:15
"Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard."

Detail from a 15th century altarpiece by Florentine artist Bicci di Lorenzo (1375 - 1452). The altarpiece was bequeathed to the Abbey by Viscount Lee of Fareham (died 1947). It is thought originally to have come from the Capella San Giovanni Gaulberto in Sta Trinita, Florence. The central panel shows the Madonna enthroned, holding a rose, with the Christ Child.

Still Life with a Guitar is an early 20th century painting by Spanish cubist Juan Gris. Done in oil on canvas, the work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Gallery 905.
The work was created in 1913 in the small Spanish town of Céret in the Pyrenees. Céret was popular with artists, including Picasso, who paid a visit there in the same year.

 Nurosmaniye Mosque in Instanbul
ISTANBUL, TURKEY—While restoring the eighteenth-century Nuruosmaniye Mosque, located near Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, workers from Foundations Istanbul Provincial discovered an Ottoman-era cistern. “We removed 420 trucks’ worth of slime from the cistern. Then the magnificent gallery, cistern, and water gauge became visible. …There is also a well under this cistern. After cleaning the mud, we saw that the system was still working,” said Director İbrahim Özekinci. When the cleaning and conservation are finished in another year, he plans to turn the cistern into a museum and open it to visitors.

Máscaras en la celebración del Güegüense (NICARA- güense ?)

“In a real dark night of the soul it is always three o’clock in the morning.” ---F. Scott Fitzgerald

“His mouth was wide and mobile, the mouth of an actor or preacher”---Joyce Cary

“Nicoiano spoke of another lord named Nicaragua who lived about 150 miles  to the west and Gil González continued there, persuading him to become a Christian, along with 9,000 of his people. Nicaragua gave the Spaniards 15,000 pesos in the form of gold necklaces. Gil González presented him in return with a silk jacket, a linen shirt and a red hat.

A long  conversation followed during which Nicaragua said that the total destruction of the human race would soon come, brought on by man’s many crimes and unnatural lusts. This lord aske all kinds of interesting questions of Gil González de Ávila which the conquistador must have found surprising: what was the cause of heat and cold? Were dancing and drinking acceptable? Did men have souls? Gil González  delivered a good sermon describing the benefits of Christianity and the evils of human sacrifice. He was mader aware that these Indians were terrified of the Spaniards’ beards.”---Hugh Thomas : THE AGE OF GOLD: The Spanish Empire of Charles V .Ch.X Pedrarias, Panama, and Peru; Guzmán in New Spain p.122

Prov.13:21
"Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed."
 Matt.12:1
"At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat."

                           Casa en Heredia (Atrio)

Taken about 30 mins before sunset, with a brisk westerly pushing the rollers in.
A feat of engineering to build these. The lower engine house was built in 1835 to contain a beam engine to pump out and drain the mine.
The other house had a winding engine to work the inclined Diagonal Shaft which ran out under the sea to a depth of 1360 feet.
It is said, on stormy days, the miners could hear the large boulders being rolled about on the sea floor above their heads.
One hell of a place to work!
