The Lion Hunt is a 1621 painting by Peter Paul Rubens, now held in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. It shows two lions attacked by hunters on horseback and on foot. It marks the end of an intensive creative phase for Rubens centered on the theme of hunting.

Frida Kahlo And The Symbolism In Her Art

Frida Kahlo who lived during the first half of the 20^th century changed the art history in a way that she put her own dreams in her artworks. She was affected from several occasions as she had a bus accident and many love affairs that she expressed in an open manner. She used Christian symbolism merging with her own dreams that she called her reality.

After her periods of depression and miscarriages in her life she gave herself into pets around her. She liked to use monkeys, hummingbirds, dogs and cats in her artwork. One of her self-portrait depicts her with three spider monkeys surrendered Kahlo as a protective and tender symbols. On the contrary, Mexican mythology suggests monkeys are the symbols of lust and generally used in that manner.

Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, Diego Rivera often captured the history and social challenges of his native country through his murals and paintings. El Vendedor de Alcatraces (“Calla Lilies Vendor”) depicts a native Mexican peasant woman carrying an enormous basket of calla lilies, preparing to begin her day as a flower vendor at a market. The unidentified individual in the background helping carry the load of flowers and the hunched posture of the woman is indicative of the hardships endured by the country’s working class, a common theme in Rivera’s work.

 The archaic smile was used by sculptors in Archaic Greece, especially in the second quarter of the 6th century BCE, possibly to suggest that their subject was alive and infused with a sense of well-being. One of the most famous examples of the Archaic Smile is the Kroisos Kouros, and the Peplos Kore is another.

 

 The Rampin Rider or Rampin Horseman (c. 550 BC) is an equestrian statue from the Archaic Period of Ancient Greece. The statue was masterfully made of marble and has traces of red and black paint.

It is thought originally to have come from the Capella San Giovanni Gaulberto in Sta Trinita, Florence. The central panel shows the Madonna enthroned, holding a rose, with the Christ Child.

 

Still Life with a Guitar is an early 20th century painting by Spanish cubist Juan Gris. Done in oil on canvas, the work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Gallery 905.

The work was created in 1913 in the small Spanish town of Céret in the Pyrenees. Céret was popular with artists, including Picasso, who paid a visit there in the same year.

La fachada principal

La sobriedad de la parte posterior del arco de Labná contrasta con la ornamentación simbólica que cubre la fachada: a ambos lados del pasaje se abren las puertas de dos pequeñas habitaciones abovedadas, rematadas por el friso, que  representa unas chozas con alta techumbre de paja, a ejemplo de la vivienda vernácula, lo mismo que los motivos cruzados que evocan las celosías de las edificaciones de caña. Es también símbolo de realeza.
