Yellowknife is the capital and the largest community in the Northwest Territories, Canada. It is located on the northern shore of Great Slave Lake, about 400 km south of the Arctic Circle, on the west side of Yellowknife Bay near the outlet of the Yellowknife River.
The name “Yellowknife” comes from a local Dene tribe, known as the “Copper Indians” or “Yellowknife Indians”, who are now incorporated as the Yellowknives Dene First Nation. These indigenous people traded TOOLS made from COPPER deposits near the Arctic Coast. The term ‘YELLOWKNIFE’ was coined by European explorers and cartographers over 200 years ago in honor of the Indigenous Dene that they met in the 1700s. The Europeans named the nearby river and the city after the copper tools the Dene carried.

His third and chief pride in these declining years of a long frontier life was his granddaughter Trinidad, thirteen years old and as charming a child as could be found in the northern provinces. Russian Instrumental Case

Welcome to the final lesson about Russian cases. The sixth and final case is the instrumental case. The instrumental case is used to illustrate the concepts of 'with' and 'by means of'. Another way to think about it is that it represents the ‘instrument’ that was used to carry out the action.

Unfortunately it is hard to learn Russian without first learning about the cases. But after this lesson you will be able to recognise and form all six Russian cases, so we can start concentrating on more practical Russian such as vocabulary and using verbs.

Using the Intrumental Case: By means of

The instrumental case is used to express the concept of “by means of”. In English this is normally done using the words “using” or “with”. In English these words can have different meanings, so it’s important to recognise when they are meaning “by means of”.

This magnificent work, made in the 4th century BC, is thought to belong to King Abdalonymos of Sidon.
